A day after he struck an alliance with the Samajwadi Party, RLD national vice-president Jayant Chaudhary said on Sunday that what started as a spark during Gorakhpur and Phulpur bypolls will turn into a full blown opposition upsurge against the BJP in the Kairana and Noorpur byelections in UP.

Sources said that after SP announced fielding its candidate, Ajit Singh spoke to SP chief Akhilesh Yadav and explained that RLD candidate would be able to garner more Jat votes.

Begum Tabassum Hasan and Mriganka Singh, two women from politically heavyweight families of Kairana, will battle it out in the by-election to the parliamentary constituency in Uttar Pradesh later this month amid the shadow of the legacy of their deceased family heads who remain competitively popular among locals.

"We expect the full support of like-minded, non-BJP parties, especially the Samajwadi Party (SP) and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), besides the".

The RLD will field Tabassum Hasan in Kairana while SP candidate in Noorpur will be Naaemul Hasan. The SP has made a decision to field Naimul Hasan as its candidate from Noorpur assembly seat in Bijnor district.

The Kairana bypoll was necessitated following the death of its sitting BJP MP, Hukum Singh, in February.

Voting for Kairana Lok Sabha and Noorpur Assembly seat will be held on May 28.

Both the parties feel that it should be easy to defeat the BJP in a one-to-one fight in both the constituencies in western UP.

On the other hand, the opposition parties - the SP, the RLD and the Congress - are viewing the bypolls as another opportunity to convey the message to the voters that the saffron fortress can be breached if the opposition is united.

A broad understanding has also emerged that the coming 2019 Lok Sabha elections should be contested together by all Opposition parties, Dubey added.

The BSP has already declared that it will not take active part in any by-election and prepare in the right earnest for the 2019 Lok Sabha polls. Jayant said the bypolls in west UP will resurrect his party which got decimated in 2014 Lok Sabha and 2017 state polls. The RLD later agreed to extend support to a Samajwadi Party candidate.

In the state Assembly elections a year ago, BJP's Lokendra won the Noorpur constituency. As per the arrangements, the SP candidate will be contesting from Kairana.
