While Game 1 most certainly won't be the end-all for the Cavaliers or the Celtics, it will gauge much of this series.

Marcus Morris believes he is the NBA's second-best player when it comes to stopping LeBron James, ahead of the Boston Celtics' huge Eastern Conference finals series against the Cleveland Cavaliers. Coming back from [deficits] most teams wouldn't come back from. "And Brad sat me down and said, 'We brought you here to be able to defend LeBron [James] when we get to the Eastern Conference finals.' And we're here now".

It could have been expected back in October, after the Celtics' bolstered their roster with the additions of Gordon Hayward and Kyrie Irving, whose departure from Cleveland left a sizeable hole next to LeBron James.

In the absence of Kyrie Irving, reserve guard Terry Rozier has stepped up in an unexpectedly big way for the Celtics, averaging 18.2 points so far in the playoffs with no sign of slowing down. "It's nothing against the defense or sometimes you're not tall enough to block his shot or things like that". You'd think it was over.

"It's about playing five guys within our system, sticking to it, and if we do that with the right intensity, then we're going to be in a good spot", Baynes said.

"We've got to try to make it as tough as we can". "You're just focused on what's next". We weren't going to just let the teams come in and punk us.

As a member of both the Miami Heat and Cavaliers, James - whose success against Boston did a 180-degree turn with a mesmerising Game 6 performance in 2012 - has made the Celtics green (er) with envy.

LeBron James

LeBron James (23) shoots over Marcus Morris (13).

"We talked about it prior to the playoffs, nobody should love a challenge more, nobody should have more fun doing it", Stevens said. James is averaging 34.3 points, 9.4 rebounds and 9 assists this year in the playoffs.

While Al Horford has played some fantastic two way basketball, much of the offensive burden has fallen on the trio of youngsters who led the Celtics to the playoffs in the first place. During the regular season, despite all the of the turnover both prior to the season and during it, the Cavaliers put together the fifth-most points per 100 possessions and the third-highest effective field-goal percentage. "He can really shoot the ball from the outside. Just worry about making plays for your teammates".

The "Big 3" Boston team featuring Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce and Ray Allen ousted him and the Cavs in 2008 and 2010, the latter series ending with James famously storming off the floor and pulling off his jersey to foreshadow his free-agent departure later that summer for South Beach. "I'm sure he'll talk to our players individually. But he has got a lot of great role players around him and some other guys who can really create as well".

James had 42, 33, 45, 38 and 35 points in the five games against the Celtics a year ago during the playoffs, and they are expecting him to generate plenty of production this time around, too. "Any little thing that he's been giving us has definitely been helping". Of course, there is no way to stop James completely. The Cavs will need their second-best player to be great as well, or else that opens the door for Celtics coach Brad Stevens to preying on weaknesses.

"What excites me the most is probably that this is what we dreamed of", he said Saturday.
