A White House team will travel to Singapore to prepare for a June 12 summit between US President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, the White House said Saturday.

Trump signalled that preparations for the summit with Mr. Kim were going ahead.

"We got that done and we can be successful in the denuclearization of the Korean peninsula, that would be a great thing for North Korea", Trump added.

The two Koreas planned to hold a meeting last week, but the North called if off at the last minute, taking issue with joint military drills between South Korea and the United States.

Trump rattled the region on Thursday by cancelling his June 12 meeting with Kim, citing "open hostility" from Pyongyang.

Asked about the abrupt cancellation of the North-U.S. summit, Cho did not elaborate, saying he will look into what Trump said in the letter and figure out the overall situation. "I think people want to see if we can get the meeting and get something done", he said Saturday.

Echoing the Trump administration, a top spokesman for the Japanese government vowed that Tokyo would maintain pressure on North Korea, which has proved to threaten the island nation directly.

Landslide to lift Irish abortion ban
Irish law says abortions can only be performed in cases where the mother's life is in danger, a provision added in 2013. It protects the equal right to life of the mother and the unborn and effectively prohibits abortion in most cases.

Associated Press/Alex Brandon Moon says his meeting with Kim was arranged at Kim's request.

With the Trump-Kim summit back on the cards, Moon said that he is looking forward to a three-way meeting between him, Trump and Kim to formally put an end to the Korean War.

North Korea's state news agency, KCNA, said the Korean leaders had agreed to "high-level" talks between the two countries on June 1.

Their talks at the Panmunjom border village, which South Korean officials said lasted two hours, came after their April 27 meeting, the first inter-Korean summit in more than a decade that was also held at the same venue. At that meeting, they declared they would work toward a nuclear-free Korean peninsula and a formal end to the 1950-53 Korean War.

Moon was speaking in the wake of the surprise talks he held with the North's leader on Saturday near the demilitarized zone between the two Koreas. "They shared the opinion that they would meet frequently in the future to make dialogue brisk and pool wisdom and efforts", KCNA said.

"Kim stressed again that he had a firm determination toward complete denucleariaation", the South Korean president added. "South Korea summit, President Trump clearly emphasised that we may see not only the end of hostile relations but also economic cooperation if North Korea denuclearises", Mr. Moon said. "I urge North Korea and the U.S.to confirm each other's will by sharing their problems with each other and communicating directly".

Abe also said it is necessary to make a USA -N.
