The 41-year-old Madrid legend is now in charge of the club's youth team, but had been on the shortlists of Murcia as well as Scottish club St Mirren.

Real Madrid full-back Marcelo believes it is "inevitable" that Neymar will join Los Blancos and has said "Cristiano Ronaldo doesn't own Real Madrid" in reaction to the Portuguese's presence seemingly posing a problem preventing his fellow Brazilian's arrival. "He was the coach I wanted here".

"It's a shame that Zidane didn't resign two days later". "Guti called me to thank me for our interest in him".

England call up Ball as cover for injured Woakes
And, like Ben Stokes (hamstring), Woakes will be absent for the early part of the Australia series, which gets under way on June 13.

While Real may seen Conte as an ideal fit to take over the club, it is claimed he has major reservations, fearing his tactics and methods would not be suited to the group of players at Real.

It would be his first senior managerial role and a marked risk for Florentino Perez and his board, but Guti is well thought of by the Madrid faithful following his long and illustrious playing career with the club.

However, with Pochettino seemingly impossible to prize away from Tottenham and the likes of Jurgen Klopp, Max Allegri and Antonio Conte also hard to hire, Madrid could be set to bring in a manager who already has experience of working within the club and hope this approach will be as successful as Zidane's appointment.
