Armed man takes three hostage in Paris

An area in Paris has been on lockdown after an armed man reportedly took several people, including a pregnant woman, hostage in one of the buildings, local media report.

Anti-terrorist police are surrounding the Mixicom computer store in the French capital's 10th arrondissement, close to the Gare du Nord Eurostar hub. However, police have said there was no indication that the incident was terrorism-related, according to CNN.

Police would not immediately confirm whether the person holding the hostages was armed or describe the nature of his demands.

The man reportedly asked for the Iranian embassy to be contacted but the police did not confirm the report. An Interior Ministry official said negotiations with the suspect were taking place.
