Trump’s vow to end military drills with Seoul stuns a region

Trump denied making any concessions to the Pyongyang, but he and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un finished their summit by signing an agreement committing the United States to unspecified "security guarantees" in exchange for a denuclearized Korean Peninsula.

The military says it will continue with the current posture until it receives updated guidance from the Department of Defense. It was shocking, he said, because these exercises are fundamental to our military relationship with South Korea.

It came after Donald Trump said the United States would be stopping war games referring to military exercises with South Korea.

"USFK has received no updated guidance on execution or cessation of training exercises - to include this fall's schedule Ulchi Freedom Guardian", US Forces in Korea lieutenant-colonel Jennifer Lovett said in a statement.

"We actually have a new deal with South Korea in terms of the trade deal but we have to talk to many countries about trading us fairly". "I am concerned that the summit between Trump and Kim will prove to be a setback in the global efforts to denuclearize North Korea and also introduce instability in the alliance between Seoul and Washington". North Korea also insists that the USA troop presence in the South, as well as its nuclear "umbrella" over allies Seoul and Tokyo, are part of America's "hostile" policy toward the North.

The U.S. had rejected such proposals in the past, but North Korea has declared an end to testing its nuclear weapons and ballistic missiles, and now Trump appears ready to end exercises while talks are ongoing.

South Korean officials who met Kim this year said the North Korean leader said he understood the need for the training. But as American and South Korean troops continued exercises, NorthKorean officials lashed out in several statements that led Trump to temporarily call off the summit.

"President Trump committed to providing security guarantees to the DPRK and Chairman Kim Jong-un reaffirmed his firm and unwavering commitment to complete denuclearisation of the Korean Peninsula".

North Korea regularly calls the military exercises provocative preparations for a northward invasion, and numerous scariest standoffs in recent years on the Korean Peninsula have happened when the drills were being staged. "There has been real concern that he would only look after USA interests, not those of our long-standing allies". The State Department released a photograph of Pompeo on the phone.

Kim arrived in the city with a bullet-proof limousine and a portable toilet in tow, according to South Korean newspaper Chosun. "My second question is, what did we receive in return for this concession?"
