Production-ready Aston Martin Rapide AMR to launch at Le Mans 2018

The Aston Martin Rapide AMR has been revealed, sporting racy looks, more power, and a super limited production run. As such the AMR is the fastest and most powerful Rapide to date, the 5.9-litre V12 now boosted to 603hp thanks to a revised intake system and ECU tweak; combined with revisions to the eight-speed automatic gearbox, 0-62mph is said to take just 4.4 seconds, and top speed is 205mph.

Power gains aside, the Rapide AMR has also been made to be a more dynamic and agile auto in the corners. This is also the first Rapide with carbon ceramic brakes - 400mm at the front with six-piston calipers and 360mm at the rear with four pistons each - and the first Aston Martin of any kind with 21 inch wheels, which necessitated special Michelin Super Sport tyres, developed specifically for this vehicle. A first for Aston Martin are the 21-inch wheels that aid in cooling the massive brakes, along with modified brake ducts and dust shields adapted from the Vanquish S.

Carbon-ceramic brakes measuring 400 mm up front (with six-piston callipers) and 360 mm at the rear (with four-piston callipers) ship standard, while the new Rapide AMR rides 10 mm lower than the Rapide S, employing "thoroughly re-engineered" three-stage adaptive dampers.

The Gaydon-based automaker says the Rapide AMR's aerodynamics have been tuned to reduce lift while "retaining a neutral balance", with the added aerodynamic bodywork (the splitter, sills, rear diffuser and boot-lid spoiler) fashioned from carbon-fibre.

Aston Martin Rapide AMR revealed – UPDATE

The vehicle comes with carbon ceramic brakes as standard with four-piston calipers and revised suspension.

Customers can choose from three different design schemes - Standard, Silhouette and Signature. They are split into Standard, Silhouette and Signature; the latter is what you see here, with Stirling Green paint, Lime accents and a Lime stripe for the look most similar to the Aston racers. The Silhouette gets a full-length contrasting stripe in China Grey or Clubsport White instead. According to the company, "this draws the closest visual link to the Aston Martin Racing team and the liveries of its race cars".

These design schemes are reflected on the interior as well, available with either AMR Lime or Galena Silver welting and stitching. Every example features AMR logos stitched into the front perches, a limited-edition AMR inspection plaque and AMR branding on the carbon sill plates. Optionally available for the full race auto experience are carbon paddle shifters, a One-77 steering wheel and, er, an umbrella. The auto will be available worldwide with the exception of China and Russian Federation, and customer deliveries are scheduled to start in the fourth quarter of 2018. Following the recently revealed (and very well received) DB11 AMR, the sporty side of Aston is being further extended with this, the Rapide AMR.

Aston Martin's local arm has confirmed the Rapide AMR will be priced from $459,950 plus on-road costs.
