Trump Agreed to Cancel South Korea War Games Without Informing the Military

President Donald Trump's ideas about stopping the joint military exercises between the United States military and South Korea may have come from Russian President Vladimir Putin.

But other observers said that the USA had given up too much in pledging to end military exercises without obtaining a timeline from the North on how it will give up its nuclear weapons, adding that Trump had already made concessions by agreeing to meet with Kim at all. USA military forces in Korea also said they had not received new directions on the exercises.

Bishop said: "I don't believe that suspension for suspension has actually been agreed".

If confirmed, the reported deal could be seen as a concession by Trump since USA officials - and the president himself - had called for the North to take swift and clear disarmament measures before receiving any rewards.

Joining Gov. Richardson to represent the North Korean side was Ambassador Joseph DeTrani - who, in real life, served as Special Envoy to North Korea for the six-party talks starting in 2003.

Trump says that "500 days ago they would have "begged" for this deal-looked like war would break out".

Speaking at a press conference following the summit, Trump said: "Now we can have hope that [the war] will soon end and it will, it will soon end".

In the lead-up to the summit, the USA and South Korea had moved forward with war games.

On Monday, Mattis told Pentagon reporters that there had been no discussions on future withdrawals of USA troops from Korea. "North Korea has great potential for the future!"

Earlier in the day, President Donald Trump pledged to stop conducting USA "war games" with South Korea on the Korean Peninsula.

"Over the last two months the border is more open than it was when we first started", Trump told reporters in Singapore.

And that ties in with what North Korea, South Korea and Russian Federation had already discussed at the Far East summit in Vladivostok last September, as Asia Times reported; economic integration between Russian Federation and the two Koreas, including the crucial connectivity of a future Trans-Korean railway with the Trans-Siberian.

Pompeo says he was there when Trump talked about it with Kim.

Nam said Seoul welcomed the news that President Trump had "sufficiently expressed" his trust in Kim.

Trump on Tuesday pledged to suspend the United States and South Korea's "war games", or military drills.

"We have a historic meeting and chose to leave the past behind and we are about to sign a historic document", Kim said.

But on Tuesday morning Pentagon officials said they're still awaiting more detail from the White House.

"It is something that [North Korea] very much appreciated", he said, adding that the exercises cost too much and are seen as provocative by North Korea.

As part of the growing detente, the KCNA report also said that Kim had invited Trump to visit Pyongyang, an offer that the USA president had accepted.
