President Donald Trump was expected to receive a briefing at the White House on a report from the Justice Department's internal watchdog on the FBI's handling of the Hillary Clinton email investigation. Lynch came under scrutiny during the campaign for meeting with former President Bill Clinton on a tarmac in Arizona in late June 2016.

The 500-page report is expected to criticize former FBI director James B. Comey and other senior law enforcement officials for decisions they made that affected the course of the inquiry on Clinton's use of a private email server, as well as how they conducted themselves during the investigation.

In this instance, Comey said that though the Federal Bureau of Investigation found Clinton and her aides to be "extremely careless" in handling classified material, "no reasonable prosecutor" could have brought a case against her.

The report focused in part on Comey's announcement in July 2016 that Clinton acted improperly but did nothing illegal. That upset Republicans who said Comey's statement could have helped Clinton's election campaign.

In the days before the presidential election, Mr Comey announced that new emails had surfaced which related to that case.

With the compromise, May has now got more time to hammer out an agreed position on trade with her fractious ministers. A shadow minister and several junior aides had to resign in the process.

However, Trump's original justification for axing Comey - failing to follow Justice Department protocols - quickly fell by the wayside when Trump said he did it with the "Russia thing" on this mind.

A congressional source told Fox News that Page's text about Trump "not ever going to become president" was produced to Congress, but Strzok's response that "we'll stop it" was not.

"I want to believe the path you threw out for consideration in Andy's office - that there's no way he gets elected", Strzok wrote, "but I'm afraid we can't take that risk".

The findings, which are slated to be released Thursday afternoon, describe Comey as "insubordinate" while also criticizing then-Attorney General Loretta Lynch for weak leadership, Reid also reports.

Republican critics seized on revelations from the inspector general that two FBI officials who worked on Special Counsel Robert Mueller's Russian Federation investigation, Peter Strzok and Lisa Page, exchanged text messages sharply critical of Trump. Mueller removed Strzok from his team after Horowitz disclosed the texts to him.
