New York's attorney general on Thursday sued U.S. President Donald Trump and his namesake foundation, saying the nonprofit should be dissolved after more than a decade of illegal conduct, including support for Trump's 2016 U.S. presidential campaign.

The lawsuit alleges that the foundation paid $100,000 to settle legal claims against Mr Trump's Mar-A-Lago resort, $158,000 to settle claims against one of his gold clubs, and $10,000 to purchase a painting of Mr Trump to hang at another of his gold clubs. I won't settle this case!,' he wrote. Democratic Attorney General Barbara Underwood filed a lawsuit Wednesday against the foundation and its directors, Trump and his children Donald Trump Jr., Eric Trump and Ivanka Trump.

The lawsuit seeks to ban the president from serving as the director of any NY non-profit for 10 years, and seeks similar one year bans for each of his children, who serve on the foundation's board.

"The foundation was little more than a checkbook for payments to not-for-profits from Mr. Trump or the Trump Organization", Underwood said in a 41-page complaint filed in ny state court in Manhattan.

Schneiderman resigned last month after allegations that he abused women he had dated; he denied the claims.

She's seeking to ban Trump from serving as a director of a NY not-for-profit for 10 years. But those presidential powers couldn't be applied to state level prosecutions such as the one in NY.

Trump Foundation "was little more than a checkbook for payments from Mr. Trump or his businesses to nonprofits, regardless of their objective or legality", Democratic Attorney General Barbara Underwood said as she sued to dissolve the foundation and seek $2.8 million in restitution. Schneiderman ordered the foundation to stop fundraising in NY.

She also sent referral letters to the Internal Revenue Service and the Federal Election Commission for possible further action, adding more weight to the legal troubles the president faces.
