In a joint statement signed by Trump and Kim at the historic summit, the leaders pledged to work toward "complete denuclearization" of the Korean Peninsula, falling short of specifying the plan and timeframe of the denuclearization process.

On the issue the world has been most fixated on - North Korea's pursuit of a nuclear arsenal meant to target the entire US mainland - Trump and Kim signed a joint statement that contained a repeat of past vows to work toward a denuclearized Korean Peninsula.

When asked Wednesday whether Trump was jumping the gun by declaring victory, White House counselor Kellyanne Conway told reporters: "This president wants North Korea to completely denuclearize so obviously that has to be complete, verifiable and irreversible".

Pompeo was briefing North Asian leaders on Trump's first-of-its-kind summit with Kim, meeting with South Korean President Moon Jae-in before heading to Beijing later to talk with China's Xi Jinping.

US officials said it was unclear what type of training involving USA and South Korean troops might now be stopped because of Trump's order to end the "war games", but the massive annual exercises that bring in nuclear-capable ships and warplanes from Guam and other US bases in the region will likely end.

"If North Korea sincerely carries out denuclearization steps and North Korea's dialogue with the South and the United States to resolve hostilities goes well, it will be necessary to flexibly change military pressure against the North to abide by the spirit of the Panmunjom Declaration", Moon said, referring to an agreement on better ties he made with Kim in an April summit.

Pompeo was speaking at a press conference in Seoul with Japanese Foreign Minister Taro Kono and South Korean Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha.

Trump described his meeting with Kim as "an interesting and very positive experience" and said North Korea "has great potential for the future".

In the run-up to the summit, the North's media softened its rhetoric so as not to spoil the atmosphere as Kim prepared to sit down with the leader of the country North Korea has maligned and lambasted for decades as the most evil place on Earth, other than perhaps Japan, its former colonial ruler.

The praise was among Trump's latest adulation for Kim, a dictator who has directed murders of family members and starved his own people, since the two held a summit in Singapore earlier this week to discuss denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.

"We envision strong, secure and prosperous North Korea that is fully integrated into the community of nations".

As per Tuesday's declaration, Pompeo is the key official on the U.S. side charged with implementing the broad-ranging, but vague agreement signed by Kim and Trump. "No longer - sleep well tonight!" It obviously accomplished nothing, no matter how much Donald Trump tweets otherwise, and there's nothing left to do except see if Pompeo and his team make any concrete progress in upcoming negotiations.

The two then signed a joint statement reaffirming North Korea's commitment to giving up nuclear weapons. -South Korean exercises appeared off-limits under the new guidance. US military has deployed four F-22 stealth fighter jets to the Korean Peninsula as another response to North Korea's nuclear and missile threats. North Korea will of course be demanding that the sanctions be lifted. He said he planned to continue sharing the view with Washington and Seoul.

Asked about his having suggested Russian Federation be let back into the G7, Trump said of that meeting, "We spent about 25% of our time talking about Russian Federation". The next scheduled major exercise, involving tens of thousands of troops, normally is held in August.
