A spokesman for the Los Angeles District Attorney confirmed the allegation was under review after being presented by the Santa Monica Police Department but did not provide further details.

Singer in December told USA media when the allegation first surfaced that his client "categorically disputes the claim and it is apparent that the woman filed the report to get a media outlet to publish the story". Last year, during initial media reports about the Santa Monica case, Stallone's attorney said he "categorically disputes the claim".

The #MeToo campaign took off past year following sexual assault allegations against Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein.

Stallone, 71, became a star after appearing in the Academy Award-winning "Rocky" in 1976.

Hollywood has been roiled in the past eight months by accusations of sexual assault against dozens of actors, directors and film-makers, leading to many major figures being forced to step down or dropped from creative projects. It was just a natural death, says coroner.

The increasing scrutiny on allegations against Stallone come in the wake of the #MeToo movement and reports about widespread sexual abuse allegedly perpetrated by Harvey Weinstein and other powerful men in Hollywood. He entered a not guilty plea.
