WaPo: Stone Met During Campaign With Russian National Offering Clinton Dirt

According to the Washington Post story published Sunday, Caputo set up the meeting with Greenberg and Stone after Greenberg approached Caputo's Russian-immigrant business partner.

Former Trump campaign adviser Roger Stone met with a Russian individual peddling information on Hillary Clinton during the 2016 presidential campaign, the Washington Post reported Sunday.

The report is the latest example of Trump campaign allies having contact with Russians and being less than forthcoming about them.

Stone said that Greenberg wanted "big" money and the meeting was a "waste of time".

"You don't understand Donald Trump", Stone recalled saying before rejecting the offer at a restaurant in the Russian-expat magnet of Sunny Isles, Fla.

As part of their campaign, Trump and his loyalists have tried to convince the public that the Federal Bureau of Investigation violated its usual operating procedures, including installing "spies" inside Trump's campaign, though there's no evidence that's the case.

Both Stone and Caputo failed to disclose the Greenberg meeting in their interviews with the House Intelligence Committee - an omission their lawyers said was accidental, but that Rep. Adam Schiff, the top Democrat on House Intelligence Committee, said was part of a pattern of deception.

No irregularities were detected at the Mihama, Takahama and Ohi nuclear plants to the north of Osaka, Kansai Electric Power said. Municipal authorities have confirmed three deaths in Osaka and a nearby city, a 9-year-old girl and two men in their 80s.

"In multiple respects now, the testimony of Roger Stone appears inaccurate or deliberately misleading".

Schiff said he had similar concerns about Caputo's testimony, which he said also omitted mention of this interaction with a Russian national offering dirt on Clinton, something Schiff said could not plausibly have escaped his recollection. He pressed Republicans on the committee to make the interview transcripts available to Mueller's team "for a determination whether any witnesses committed perjury before our committee".

Caputo told The Post that Robert Mueller is now investigating the meeting and its ties to the special counsel's collusion case. "I don't think a failure of memory constitutes a perjury". In a now-deleted Twitter message, Caputo said that when he was in Russian Federation he "worked for the Kremlin". That investigation opened on July 31, 2016, according to The New York Times.

"How insane is the Russian?"

Though Stone said Greenberg came to the meeting alone, Greenberg told the Post he brought along a Ukrainian friend "identified only as Alexei", who claimed he had been fired from a job at the Clinton Foundation. "The two events investigators will be tying together are the Stone-Caputo-Ukraine "clandestine-Hillary-dirt-meeting conspiracy" and Manafort (whose right-hand man was Caputo pal Gates) offering an oligarch he met via Ukraine work 'private campaign briefings just weeks later".
