Valve Is Introducing Its Own Alternative to Steam Spy

After altering its privacy settings in a manner that effectively changed the way popular analytics site Steam Spy operated, Valve has announced that it is now working on its own alternative to the service. This is where tools like Steam Spy come in, to fill the void that official means have left untouched. And at the Business Conference for Games Industry in Russia, Valve Business Development Head Jan-Peter Ewert shared that Steam gained over 13.5 million "new first-time purchasers" during the first few months of 2018. Ewert shared that Steam Direct, which allows developers to just go ahead and release their games when they're ready, has increase the number of game releases per week to 180 titles from just 70 during the era of Steam Greenlight and just 5 before that. According to the company, it's "something better" than Steam Spy, though there aren't really any details now on what that might be. So, to be clear, we don't have a business selling iPhones.

"The only that way we can make money is if [game developers] make good decisions in bringing the right games to the platform and finding your audience", Ewert said. "So, yes, we are very much working on new tools and new ways of getting data out of Steam, and we hope that data can be more accurate and more useful than what Steam Spy previously offered you".
