Tornado warning issued for south-central Sask.

Environment Canada has issued severe weather warnings for much of southern Saskatchewan, including tornado warnings in a variety of rural municipalities.

Severe thunderstorm warnings are issued when imminent or occurring thunderstorms are likely to produce or are producing one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall.

A possible tornado has been spotted in the Shamrock area, 100 kilometres southwest of Moose Jaw.

Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain.

Another warning was also issued for Assiniboia, Gravelbourg and Coronarch.

Environment Canada said it is a unsafe and potentially life-threatening situation.

People are urged to take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches.

Environment Canada said anyone at risk should go indoors to a room on the lowest floor, away from outside walls and windows, such as a basement, bathroom, stairwell or interior closet.
