Simon Pegg opens up about battle with alcohol addiction

Pegg rose to global fame largely for his roles as star and co-writer of Shaun of the Dead, which opened the door to a Hollywood blockbusters like Mission: Impossible III and the Star Trek reboot.

Speaking in a lengthy interview with The Guardian, the "Star Trek" actor, 48, revealed that he underwent a long and hard struggle with depression that turned into a serious drinking problem.

'I thought it would fix things and it just didn't.

Directed by Christopher McQuarrie, Mission: Impossible - Fallout stars Tom Cruise, Rebecca Ferguson, Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Michelle Monaghan, Alec Baldwin, Sean Harris, Vanessa Kirby, Henry Cavill, Sian Brooke, Frederick Schmidt and Angela Bassett. And I think if anyone finds any relationship to it, then it might motivate them to get well.

His alcoholism came to a head while he was shooting 2006's Mission: Impossible III in Los Angeles.

Liu Hui also confirmed his sister's departure on a social media site. "While Liu Xia is free, our work is not complete", he said. While in Beijing in May, German chancellor Angela Merkel met with the wife of a detained human rights lawyer.

"When I watch that film back, I can see where I was then, which was fairly lost, and unhappy, and an alcoholic", he told the publication, referencing "Mission: Impossible III".

Pegg says that it was when the press discovered he was in treatment that he had to take legal action in order to prevent stories about him emerging. "Because I hid it. I'm an actor, so I acted ... all the fucking time". Mission: Impossible - Fallout finds Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) and his International Monetary Fund team (Alec Baldwin, Simon Pegg, Ving Rhames) along with some familiar allies (Rebecca Ferguson, Michelle Monaghan) in a race against time after a mission gone wrong. According to the actor, audiences can actually see him get healthier over the course of the movie.

Before he went to rehab, the birth of his daughter made the 48-year-old star realise he needed help.

Scheduled for release late this month, Mission: Impossible - Fallout will reunite Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) with his crackpot companions on July 27th.
