Welcome news for Tom Petty fans all over the world.

The set was previewed on SiriusXM with an unreleased song dating from 1982 called "Keep a Little Soul" (not to be confused with the 1967 hit by the Music Explosion, "Little Bit O" Soul, ' which Petty and the Heartbreakers performed live).

Curated by the star's family and bandmates, the 60-song An American Treasure, due out September 28, is no greatest-hits set - Petty had enough of those to begin with.

When Tom Petty died unexpectedly last fall, the 66-year-old singer left behind a almost 50-year catalog, from early garage-rock excursions with Mudcrutch to inescapable pop hits with The Heartbreakers to gentle solo folk-pop material.

The collection of new tunes span all phases of Petty's career and were taken from his extensive archive, with the help of his family. The collection was put together by Petty's daughter Adria, his wife Dana, Heartbreakers bandmates Mike Campbell and Benmont Tench, and longtime Petty engineer Ryan Ulate.

Further details on An American Treasure will be revealed in due course. And I think a lot of people thought he was pretty cool'.
