Zsa Zsa, the English bulldog whose captivating looks and lolling tongue garnered her the title of World's Ugliest Dog last month, died in her sleep on Tuesday. "She's been staying over at my dad's house", Brainard said in the report.

One June 23, Zsa Zsa - with her barrel chest, slobbering tongue and a pink manicure - won the 30th annual World's Ugliest Dog contest in California. "Sweetest dog I've ever met".

"He woke up this morning and found her passed away", said Brainard, who called Zsa Zsa's death "devastating". Megan Brainard remembered finding your pet at a shelter when he was five years old.

A video of the incident was taken by his wife, Denise Holland of New York University's environmental fluid dynamics laboratory. He said that "the real concern is in Antarctica , where ... the stakes are much higher".

Zsa Zsa's winnings included a trophy and $1,500 - a cash amount that was also given to Underdog Rescue, the group that rescued her.

After Ms. Brainard adopted her, Zsa Zsa spent her days lounging around, refusing to do much of anything unless food was involved.

Zsa Zsa was up for the title of Ugliest Dog against some fierce competition: a blackhead-covered Chinese crested-dachshund mutt, a bulldog mix with excess wrinkly skin and a Pekingese named Wild Thang.
