Frank Sinatra's first wife Nancy dies aged 101, daughter announces

Her daughter, Nancy Sinatra Jr., tweeted that her mother died Friday and a posting on her web page said she died at 6:02 p.m. but didn't indicate where she died.

She later added: 'Godspeed, Momma and thank you for everything you did for us and for the world, ' alongside a fitting tribute, a link to Frank's hit She's Funny That Way.

Born Nancy Barbato of Jersey City, New Jersey, she and Frank Sinatra started dating as teenagers, and the pair married five years later.

Nancy Sinatra Sr. married Frank Sinatra Sr., then an aspiring lounge singer, in 1939.

Frank Sinatra's fourth wife Barbara died a year ago aged 90.

Nancy Sinatra Sr. ended their marriage in 1951 when Frank Sinatra's affair with actress Ava Gardner became public. Nancy Sinatra worked as a secretary while her husband tried to get his music career started as a singing waiter at a local restaurant.
