Thomas Markle comments on Meghan's 'pained smile' since joining the royal family

On the accessories front, Meghan toted a white, wide-brimmed J.Crew hat featuring a black band which we'll no doubt see her don later when the sun shines.

"We've always had a wonderful friendship and every year for a couple years she comes out to Wimbledon, has supported me and now she's supporting me in a different role".

He told one friend: "I don't blame Meghan for that".

Thomas said it looks like his daughter flashes a "pained" smile.

"It really worries me". I think she's under too much pressure, ' he said.

Duchess Kate wore her long hair down in her signature style, while Meghan sported the messy bun she's known for.

Like Meghan, Kate had returned to an old favourite for their outing - Jenny Packham. He also talked about how Meghan's dress code sounds like something from the "1930's" and he doesn't understand why they have to "cover their knees?".

Sure, Meghan has to juggle a lot of royal protocols, plus she's under scrutiny on everything from her new accent down to her shoe size, but I'm pretty sure she's happy right now.

"So if I moved to London and started selling cups with my daughter's face on, would they shun me?"

Serena famously attended Meghan and Harry's wedding in May, and the pair spent a Sunday together watching Prince Harry play in a charity polo match in Berkshire just two weekends ago. They are all stars. Markle used to be known for her out-going character on Suits, is now "prim and proper" and doesn't exude her old personality at all.

"I think Meghan is in deeper than I am".

But the royal, who was chic in Ralph Lauren to cheer on her friend Serena Williams against Germany's Angelique Kerber, wasn't protecting her now famous tousled bun - but simply observing Royal Box guidelines.
