According to Ford, the vehicles range in year from 2013 to 2016 and were built with a bushing that attaches to the shifter cable of the transmission. Faulty bushings may cause the cables to detach from the transmission, or have the transmission gear indicator read different from reality. If this happens, the driver could shift into park but the vehicle could be in another gear. If the parking brake is not applied, a degraded shifter cable bushing that detaches from the transmission could result in unintended vehicle movement, increasing the risk of injury or crash. However, Ford says it has not received any reports of injuries or crashes related to the defect. Ford is advising owners to use the parking brake.
