With the film having received the green light from Warner Bros. and DC Films, Joaquin Phoenix's Joker origin movie has landed both a title and release date - and it's sooner than expected.

This is an interesting move. For one thing, it indicates that Phillips intends to get Joker shot and completed in less than a year (the film's slated to begin filming in September), which isn't common among comic book movies. Perhaps, as they've told us time and time again, this really will be a low-key, understated crime thriller. Stay tuned, and be safe out there. It said the film, directed by Todd Phillips, is an "exploration of a man disregarded by society that is not only a gritty character study, but also a broader cautionary tale". It will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. That's without mentioning that DC/WB will drop Wonder Woman 1984 just a month later on November 1st.

Major League Baseball rumors: Manny Machado to Dodgers hits snag
A Platinum Glove Award victor and three-time All-Star at third base, Machado moved back to his original position this season. After the All-Star Game ended, it was rumored the deal would be made official either Tuesday night or sometime on Wednesday.

Warner also reportedly in development on a separate Joker feature film which would star Jared Leto as the villain, reprising his role from Suicide Squad. Produced by Martin Scorsese and written by Phillips and Scott Silver (8 Mile), the project is rumored to explore The Joker's backstory as a failed comedian, in line with Alan Moore and Brian Bolland's acclaimed Batman: The Killing Joke.
