Pursuit ends in hostage situation at LA grocery store

Los Angeles police descended a Trader Joe's in Silver Lake near downtown Los Angeles Saturday afternoon (Sunday NZT) after a gunman opened fired outside the store at end of a police pursuit, sending shoppers diving for cover.

The incident broke out at approximately 3:30 p.m. CBS News reported that the suspect had shot his grandmother and girlfriend in South L.A. before police pursued him to Hyperion Avenue in Silver Lake.

One Eastsider reader said her boyfriend was about to drive into the Trader Joe's parking lot when when he was diverted by police into the Gelson's parking lot across the street.

Twenty-two people are believed to be hiding in a closet and are now texting police.

While, another 20 people are locked inside a cooler.

He said he was a victor not a victim because of her, and that she was the reason he attended the convention. Halloween will be directed by Green, whose previous works include Stronger and Amazon TV series Red Oaks.

A lockdown is happening with the entire area being evacuated.

TV footage shows police using ladders to help people get out of the store through some high windows over looking the parking lot.

Witnesses are telling local TV news reporters that multiple shots were fired and that people remain inside the building, but police have not confirmed that.
