Iranian President Hassan Rouhani's chief of staff claims the president rejected eight requests from President Donald Trump a year ago for one-on-one talks.

Though Trump has repeatedly denounced Iran and former President Obama's nuclear deal, he has sought to deal directly with Iranian leaders as he did with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, the Times reported.

In addition, the chief of staff confirmed on Wednesday that Rouhani is considering a cabinet reshuffle over the country's economic situation.

Now, as the second anniversary of his administration is approaching by late July and early August, Rouhani seems to have given in to pressures and the economic realities in the market.

White House and State Department officials did not immediately respond to the Times.
