In addition, US District Judge T.S. Ellis has granted the request for five witnesses to testify with immunity.

On Monday a list of five witnesses was released, as Manafort's request for a trial delay was granted, moving the date back to start on July 31st, instead of this week.

The charges are for activities that, according to the indictment, continued through the time he served as Trump's campaign manager. The Kremlin denies election interference and Trump denies collusion.

With a July 31 start date, Manafort's trial is coincidentally set to begin on the second anniversary of the FBI's investigation into ties between Donald Trump's campaign, which Manafort once ran, and Russian Federation.

Lawyers for President Trump's short-lived campaign chairman were in court to argue for the postponement, saying they needed time to prepare.

The former Trump aide is accused of money laundering and failing to register as a foreign agent, among other violations. Alex Van der Zwaan, a lawyer who once worked closely with Manafort and Gates, has also pleaded guilty and has been sentenced. Numerous documents came from devices owned by Rick Gates, Manafort's longtime partner who has pleaded guilty and is cooperating with prosecutors.

Uzo Asonye, one of the prosecutors, told the judge Mueller's office believed Manafort had access the entire time to the accounting records.
