After making its bones in the VoIP and instant messaging scene for gamers, Discord is now preparing to take its service to the next level by selling games through its own store. You see, with more than 150 million users and almost 20 million daily users, Discord has become a huge threat for Steam, a go-to platform for games for many. "We remember devouring Nintendo Power, PC Gamer, and other various gaming mags to get a sense of the titles coming out". We were always longing for the next best title.

"Today, the problem has flipped on its head". In the same way Valve's Steam Store launches games from its library.

The new store, announced alongside a major upgrade to Discord -Nitro-, will feature a customizable selection and suggestion system; moderated by a dedicated team as well as the community.

Discord has likened its new storefront to a 'cozy book shop, ' explaining it wants to keep the marketplace uncluttered so consumers can easily find what they're after.

Taliban fighters try to take Afghan city, kill at least 14
After a day of intense fighting, Afghan commandos and USA air strikes drove the group to the outskirts of the city. He said the bodies of 39 Taliban fighters were recovered from under a bridge on the southern edge of the city.

Chatting to Variety, Discord's chief marketing officer Eros Resmini says: "We've actually been mulling the idea for a long time". Discord's new store could prove to be a formidable rival.

The actual store will feature Dead Cells, Frostpunk, Omensight, Into the Breach, SpellForce 3, The Banner Saga 3, Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire, Hollow Knight, Moonlighter, This is the Police 2, and Starbound. Discord is even nurturing games, too. Games in this section will generally be exclusive to the service for 90 days, at which point developers are free to use Steam or other stores to distribute their titles. Although these games have won rave reviews from critics, they also aren't huge "triple-A titles".

"Through Discord's lifetime, we've always been thinking about fun, additive, and cool ways we could build a business that's exciting and respects our players", Discord's announcement concludes.

Nitro is shaping up to be a platform that will greatly support indie devs and their creativity; a thing our entire staff at The Indie Toaster is extremely glad of! "This Nitro boost, store experience, and library will make it easier to find, share, and jump into games with friends all in the same place you already hang out".
