Chelsea defender Kurt Zouma is yet to travel to Merseyside despite Everton trying to push through a deal to sign him on loan.

Reports emerged yesterday suggesting that both Manchester United and Everton were interested in the 23-year-old, with United thought to be keen on a permanent deal. However, a ruptured knee ligament suffered in 2016 slowed down his progress considerably and he now appears to have no future at Stamford Bridge.

He'd be provided with an opportunity to play alongside better players at Everton, and who knows, he could win himself a spot in Maurizio Sarri's squad for the season that would follow.

It might be hard for him to get regular playing time at Chelsea this season, so sending him out on loan makes sense.

Manchester United were earlier linked with the likes of Harry Maguire, Toby Alderweireld and even Yerry Mina but failed in their pursuit of all three players.

But, the Manchester United boss has only been met with disappointment in his bid to sign a centre-back, the latest coming in the form of Diego Godin's reported rejection. In his desperation to sign a player, it now looks like the manager has turned his attention towards one of his former clubs, Chelsea.

L'Equipe are an extremely reliable source, and the fact that they are reporting this indicates the deal is close to completion.
