Recently retired tight end Martellus Bennett, who played in the National Football League for a decade, spent his final season as teammates with the two best quarterbacks now playing: Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers.

The New England Patriots will add $5 million in performance-based incentives to Tom Brady's contract by this weekend, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter on Thursday.

With the 2018 season rapidly approaching, and with Tom Brady entering his age 41 season, the quarterback and the team are close to settling some changes to his contract.

Schefter notes the upcoming adjustments mirror what the Patriots did for tight end Rob Gronkowski a year ago.

His most recent extension, in 2016, paid him an average of $20.5 million per season. Ten other quarterbacks have a higher salary cap value than Brady, who is slated to earn $15 million in 2018.

Brady, who did not participate in offseason workouts but attended mandatory minicamp, has not commented on his contract. Gronkowski and the team are reportedly engaged in contract talks once more. "I've never brought up money for a lot of reasons that I've said over the years", the five-time Super Bowl champion said. "Those things are very personal".
