All departures and arrivals were halted at the busy airport for some time but have since resumed.

Video footages also shows Mr Russell doing loops in the plane.

At one point, Russell appears to believe he will not live through the moment. Acted alone he is 29 year old Pierce county residence. There is now a background check being done on him to see if a possible motive can be found.

The freakish incident involving a worker authorities said was suicidal points to one of the biggest potential perils for commercial air travel: airline or airport employees causing mayhem.

The plane thief "is confirmed a suicidal male", Troyer wrote.

According to USA Today, Russell ended the "about" section of the blog with his dreams for the future: Moving up to become a manager at Horizon Air or joining the military as an officer. "I thought this is really odd". I was born in Key West, Florida, and moved to Wasilla, Alaska when I was 7. "I don't know what the burnage is like on takeoff, but it burned quite a bit faster than I expected". He would take my shifts if I needed. "He was always smiling".

As Russell nosedived toward the water, "We were all screaming, 'Oh my god, oh my god!' and I was yelling, 'Pull up, pull up!'" he said. "I was dead set against it".

On Facebook, his favorite quotes were religious in nature, including, "God IS Love" and "No Guilt in Life, No Fear in Death, this is the Power of Christ in Me", and a non religious line, "This is America".

Authorities say Russell used a tow vehicle in the airport's Cargo 1 area to turn around a Q400 prop plane 180 degrees and prepare it for take-off.

It is unclear how the employee was able to taxi the plane on a runway and take off without authorisation. "So, I started to capture video, just because I thought it was kind of freakish", he told CNN. No one was injured on the ground, authorities said.

In this moment we are not at the top of our potential but we had the capacity to suffer for 20 minutes in the first half".

The man seemed to understand that his actions would have dire consequences. "This is probably jail time for life, huh?" "I don't know! I don't want to".

They said F-15 fighter jets were scrambled from Portland and "made it within a few minutes of theft of plane".

Speaking at Sea-Tac Airport on Saturday morning, they stressed that the investigation was just getting started, with many questions still unanswered.

An airline employee and former Alaskan stole an empty Horizon Air turboprop plane, took off from Seattle-Tacoma International Airport and crashed late Friday.

Flights out of Sea-Tac, the largest commercial airport in the Pacific Northwest, were temporarily grounded during the drama.

It shows a different side of Richard than the man heard on air traffic control recordings.

"I'm just amazed that one person affected so many other people", said Leddy. "They're not as easy to fly as, say, a Cessna 150, so I don't know how he achieved the experience that he did", Beck said.

"I want to thank the Air National Guard from Washington and OR for scrambling jets to keep Washingtonians safe", Inslee tweeted, adding: "Those pilots are trained for moments like tonight and showed they are ready and capable".

"Got a few screws loose, I guess", he is heard saying in the recording.
