PGA Championship: Tiger challenges after successive 66s in St. Louis

Through three rounds, the PGA Championship has been quite interesting, which will set up a fun finish heading into the final round on Sunday.

Rahm birdied two of his final three holes to get to nine under, with Ireland's Shane Lowry a further shot back after birdieing the last to get within four of the lead. Par. 8-under. T-9 (4 back). Kopeka, who started the day two strokes back and took the lead after the second hole, stood at 13 under on the 11th tee box, Woodland at 7 under.

Tiger Woods is within touching distance of an incredible return to golf's top table at the USPGA Championship at Bellerive.

And it was only good for a one-shot lead over Kevin Kisner.

As Woods said, "Guys are making birdies from everywhere".

"I left pretty much every single putt short on the back nine", he said.

"I made sure on 17 I did".

Again using his iron, the tee shot lands just short of the water hazard and it's no issue for Tiger.

I asked Woodland if he might have needed one more club for his second shot. He has complained that he felt forgotten by players, fans and media while he recovered from the springtime wrist injury that knocked him out of the Masters (Koepka has mentioned more than once that only three peers - Bubba Watson, Phil Mickelson, and Dustin Johnson - bothered to text him), and he even used his 54-hole lead at Bellerive as an opportunity to tell the story of how he hit a local Life Time Fitness with DJ earlier Saturday.

"Honestly, I haven't hit it great, up to my standards, these first couple days", Finau said.

"It's not necessarily the physical, it's mentally grinding that hard for 29 holes in this heat, " he said.

"It was a long day". Tiger flies a pitching wedge from 148 yards 7 feet past the hole and it basically sticks there.

In the third round, Finau made four birdies and three bogeys.

"The whole experience of playing with Jordan, I said to him down maybe the first hole or second hole it's like, you know, mate, this is a real privilege for me to be playing with you, because 18 months ago I was on a mini-tour and I worked really hard to where I got to now and it's a privilege to play with him", Wallace explained.

Woods had been facing his third shot to the par-five eighth when an approaching thunderstorm forced play to be suspended on Friday afternoon. He finished with 10 consecutive pars.

Tiger Woods is in contention in a second straight major.

And the round was solid, perhaps something to build on. That was agonizing, but the good news is he hit a good putt.

Woods had a similar outlook after his round: "Not just myself, but everyone's going to have to shoot low rounds". But there's no question what Woods will need to do.

"Could've been a little closer, " Woods said. Look at that front nine. Seemed like everybody was between 2- and 4- or 5-under par. He checked all the right boxes, had all the firepower Bellerive could ask for and a two-pack of majors to prove his pedigree; but with all the other power players perfectly aligned for what promised to be a long drive competition he blended into the crowd. It's soft, it's plugging, we're able to hold 4-irons, 5-irons, whatever we want, at the flags.
