Ten in hospital after shooting in Manchester

There was a huge police response, and officers established that several people had been injured as a result of a firearm being discharged.

Chief Superintendent Wasim Chaudhry, from Greater Manchester Police, was quoted by the publication as saying: "Thankfully the injuries suffered do not appear to be as serious as first believed and hopefully people will begin to leave hospital over the course of the day following treatment".

Ten people have been injured, although many of their injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

Ten people have been shot in Manchester after a carnival event in the Moss Side area.

Footage reportedly showing the aftermath of the incident has been posted on social media.

Detective Superintendent Debbie Dooley said police were trying to establish "exactly where this incident took place and who is responsible for such a risky attack".

The video appears to show a panicked group of people being helped by police.

Flights out of Sea-Tac, the largest commercial airport in the Pacific Northwest, were temporarily grounded during the drama. They said F-15 fighter jets were scrambled from Portland and "made it within a few minutes of theft of plane".

As a voice cries out, shouts of "move" can be heard, while another person asks "can you hear me".

The force said most of the injuries did not appear to be life-threatening.

Extra police have been sent to the area, which is around two miles south of Manchester city centre.

Officers remain at the scene of the shooting and police are now working to identify those involved.

Police said more officers would be patrolling the area over the next few days in a bid to reassure residents.

"If you have any concerns please approach them and they will try and help in any way they can".
