India vs England: Ajinkya Rahane Says Partnership With Virat Kohli Was Crucial

Rahane revealed that Kohli and his intention was to bat throughout the day. India were 307 for the loss of six wickets at stumps on Day 1.

The last time these two sides clashed here was back in 2014 when India scored 457 and 391/9 on a batting friendly surface, while England, who batted once, scored 496 as the match ended in a draw.

On the other hand, England captain Joe Root on Friday confirmed that all-rounder Ben Stokes will return to the side replacing young seamer Sam Curran.

Kohli remained, seemingly certain for his second ton of the series, only to be tempted by Rashid into edging a drive to Stokes at slip. Cook OUT for 29 after Cheteshwar Pujara DROPS his catch in the slips. While Ganguly had made the runs in 28 Test matches, Kohli took just 19 Tests to achieve the milestone. For both players, it is their most prolific partnership. But his first nine overs cost 45 runs as he strove to impress, and he was the only England bowler who failed to take a wicket on day one. In the final hour, debutant Rishabh Pant created some buzz with his first scoring stroke in Test cricket being a straight six off Rashid. It was slightly slow but after lunch I felt it was really good to bat on.

Virat Kohli's dismissal can be the key moment in the third Test. Rashid has quite a record against Indian captain, it was the sixth stance when English spinner had removed the 29-year-old captain in global cricket.

Erdogan says Turkey will defy economic threats
The lira has nosedived against the dollar, dropping as much as 20 percent on one day last week. At the congress, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan was reelected as head of the party.

"Our intent was to continue batting throughout the day. The pitch wore well as it went on, but if it hits the seam, there's something in there". Anderson and Broad bowled a tad short and the ball didn't swing much in the first hour of play as India were well placed at 43-0. But it's obviously nice to get some overs under my belt.

"I'm looking forward to seeing more of Pant".

"It was one of the most hard decisions I've had to make as captain". It could have been better, intent was important on this wicket. "We thought if we got a good start middle order could capitalise on that and that is what we were doing", Rahane told Sky Sports.

Sky Sports commentator David Lloyd: "They were quite resolute this morning". You'll get a tough first session here in England and you've got to tough it out, and I think they did that pretty well.
