Apple to finally update MacBook Air and Mac Mini this year

Apple's least expensive Mac, the Mac mini, will finally get an update later this year.

Apple Inc. will release a new low-priced laptop and a professional-focused upgrade to the Mac mini desktop later this year, ending a drought of Mac computers that has limited sales of the company's longest-running line of devices, according to people familiar with the plans.

The Mac has been a steady seller, representing more than 11 per cent of Apple sales in the last fiscal year, ahead of the iPad.

The "Mac Mini Pro" could easily be the new name of the Mac Mini 2018 described by Bloomberg citing anonymous sources. It's a Mac desktop that doesn't include a screen, keyboard, or mouse in the box and costs $500. Those you'll have to bring yourself. The improved resolution is particularly welcome - the 13-inch MacBook Air now sports an abysmal 1440 by 900 resolution and isn't exactly great in the color department either.

Australian PM Malcolm Turnbull abandons greenhouse gas target to prevent conservative revolt
Turnbull has, "in a awful abrogation of leadership", given every backbencher the power of veto over government policy. Mr Turnbull told reporters earlier on Monday he had the confidence of Mr Dutton, the cabinet and the partyroom.

This year's MacBook Air is expected to feature a Retina display upgrade, meaning that the machine will not just feature a crisp resolution, but we also expect the notebook's screen to feature a satisfactory brightness level and is slightly more colour accurate than the competition placed in the same price bracket. As a true HD screen became a must-have on any laptop, the Air started losing favor, and when the 13-inch MacBook Pro was redesigned to be thinner and the 12-inch Retina MacBook introduced, it was completely squeezed out. Low-cost Chromebook and Windows laptop use has grown exponentially in schools, and college students, normally the most hardcore MacBook fanbase, have been swayed by cheaper laptop options that offer more portability at a much lower cost.

Apple now sells the MacBook Air starting at $999.

Quanta Computer Inc. and Hon Hai Precision Industry Co. make the current generation of MacBooks and will make the new generation as well, the people familiar with Apple's plans said. Hard to say. Apple could announce them together with the new iPhones in September along with new Apple Watches and new iPads, but that seems a bit much.

Both the new Mac devices are likely going to launch later this year - sometime around October - after the company launches its new iPhone devices. Like I said before: If you're an Apple fan, this fall is gonna be a big one with a ton of new releases. Better start saving now! The computer has been favoured because of its lower price, and it's popular with app developers, those running home media centres, and server farm managers.
