Just moments ago, it was confirmed at a press conference today (12th September) that Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will be contesting the Port Dickson seat.

He claimed that the by-election was engineered by PKR in such a manner that it will see the party's in-coming president going against former Negri Sembilan mentri besar Mohamad, who he said is the favourite to contest under Barisan Nasional (BN). "There were also seats that had incumbents who were young and hardworking", sources said.

They said it was ascertained that the chosen constituency must have voter representation which reflects that Anwar is accepted by the Malays as well as non-Malays.

"Anwar has always been denied his rights as a political leader and I believe the Port Dickson parliamentary constituency by-election is long awaited by the people", he told reporters after attending the launch of the FGV-MPOB (Palm Oil Board Malaysia) Initiative In Spearheading The Use Of B10 here.

Asked whether he was also called in the discussion on the vacating of the Port Dickson's parliamentary seat, Shamsul Iskandar said the matter was discussed in a political bureau meeting.

Mr Anwar said he had known Mr Danyal for some time as an active PKR member in Perak.

Selayang MP William Leong concurred that the constituency for Mr Anwar to contest must be well-mixed as he would be representing all races as the nation's incoming prime minister.

One thing that has made him so successful in the BMW Championship has been his masterful display of putting on the greens. American 14-time major victor Tiger Woods closed with a 65, moving up to a share of sixth, one shot behind McIlroy.

"Asking Danyal to vacate his parliament seat may cause a backlash by veterans and those still serving in Port Dickson constituency".

As for when the by-election will be held, a date is yet to be announced.

When contacted, Alor Setar MP Chan Ming Kai said various factors had to be taken into consideration before deciding where Anwar should contest.

"There is none. That is the beauty of being a PKR member, we don't have to worry about that", he said.

Amirudin however said seeing the decision had already been made, he would carry out his responsibilities in helping PKR retain the parliamentary seat in the by-election.

In a Skype interview with Astro Awani, Mr Anwar said he chose the Port Dickson seat to pave the way for his political comeback as Mr Danyal impressed him with his personality and commitment to aid him in the constituency.

"Port Dickson seems to have the right racial composition, but the party must explain why the constituency was selected when making the announcement", said Dr Sivamurugan.
