Co-creator Christopher Lloyd tells Entertainment Weekly the new season will deal with a family death.

At the time, Lloyd went on to explain that they were now discussing how they want the final moments of the show to go, saying that things will ideally end the way they began - with a big family event.

Lloyd is predictably mum about the outgoing character's ID - start making your list of potential targets - but he says the person plays a "significant" role and their death will be a moving event with lasting repercussions.

In other words, one of the award-winning comedy's principal cast members will be saying farewell to the show at some point during the 10th season, because he or she is going to die.

"There's goodwill on both sides to make it happen, but there's also complicated matters that have to get worked through, and there's a time constraint on it, because we can't have it take too long", he said.

Major things are happenings on Modern Family.

It's not yet been confirmed whether season 10 will be the last for the show, which has been a family favourite since premiering in 2010. I hope there is.

'They're in many ways such different characters than they were five or 10 years ago when we started and they're just as interesting and just as amusing, ' Lloyd said.
