Hurricane Florence Impacting North Carolina

NOAA's most recent report said: "On the forecast track, the centre of Florence will approach the coasts of North and SC later today". See a map of Hurricane Florence's predicted path from the NOAA.

The center said that a gauge in Emerald Isle, North Carolina, recently reported 6.3 feet (1.92 meters) of inundation.

North Carolina governor Roy Cooper warned: "Don't relax, don't get complacent".

McMaster has ordered evacuations along much of the state's coast.

It's going to be rainy, windy weekend in Charlotte because of Hurricane Florence and, although, we are probably going to miss the worst of this storm, other parts of the state will be seriously impacted. Kilbourne said the houses sit 18 to 30 feet above sea level, so they were not anxious about the storm surge.

A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for. The storm's forward speed had slowed to 6 miles per hour, and forecasters were concerned it might have stalled.

Hurricane Florence is not expected to make landfall until Friday morning but residents in coastal areas are already losing power as gusts lash the eastern edge of North Carolina.

She said the momentum the storm has generated on its long trip across the Atlantic won't go away just "because the winds decrease a couple miles an hour". "Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 80 miles (130 km) from the centre and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 195 miles (315 km)".

Forecasters said conditions will only get more lethal as the storm smashes ashore early Friday near the North Carolina-South Carolina line and crawls slowly inland.

Another 8 million people live in areas covered by hurricane and tropical storm warnings.

"It's obviously a disappointment that we are not playing but at the end of the day, there are decisions bigger than football that need to be made for the safety of a lot of people", Hunt said.

Watching the scene unfold from space, German Alexander Gerst, an astronaut on board the ISS, tweeted photos of the enormous storm. "Get prepared on the East Coast, this is a no-kidding nightmare coming for you".

Despite reassurances from FEMA and Trump, Florence's fluctuations and course-change predictions have added to the difficulties of preparing for such a massive storm. Hurricane Helene is veering toward Ireland and Great Britain.

The numbers are expected to soar as the storm's winds and torrential rains sweep over more land. Those four storms are brewing at the same time Hurricane Olivia is pounding Hawaii.
