The Modern-Era nominees for the Pro Football Hall of Fame's Class of 2019 is comprised of 102 players and coaches, including two prominent former New Orleans Saints, linebacker Sam Mills, and defensive tackle/nose tackle, La'Roi Glover.

Joining Gonzalez on the ballot are three other players in their first year of eligibility: cornerback Champ Bailey, safety Ed Reed and linebacker London Fletcher. A college basketball and football star at California, he was drafted 13th overall by the Chiefs in 1997 and played a dozen seasons in Kansas City.

He finished his career with the most career receptions (1,325), receiving yards (15,127) and 100-yard receiving games (31) by a tight end in National Football League history, and the second-most touchdown receptions (111) behind only the Los Angeles Chargers' Antonio Gates (114). The finalists will go from 15 to 10, and then down to five. He made six All-Pro teams and was a member of the all-decade team for 2000-10. Among his 64 career picks were returns for touchdowns of 106 and 107 yards.
