Iowa State student, champion golfer found dead on golf course

The 22-year-old was found dead Monday morning at Coldwater Golf Links after golfers located a golf bag with nobody around it on the course and law enforcement was called in in regards to the suspicious circumstance.

In a statement on Iowa State's Twitter, President Wendy Wintersteen said, "We were deeply saddened to learn of the tragic death of Celia Barquin Arozamena ... dedicated civil engineering student.talented student athlete and an acclaimed golfer with a bright future ... a awful, tragic, senseless loss".

A 22-year-old man has been charged with the murder of leading amateur golfer Celia Barquin Arozamena, who was found dead on a golf course in the USA state of Iowa on Monday.

Barquin Arozamena was due to complete a civil engineering degree at Iowa State this semester.

Officials with the Ames Police Department did not release many details about the suspect and authorities could not locate a "known address" for him.

"Celia had an infectious smile, a bubbly personality and anyone fortunate enough to know her was blessed", Pollard added. "Our Cyclone family mourns the tragic loss of Celia, a spectacular student-athlete and ISU ambassador". "Celia was a lovely person who was loved by all her teammates and friends". Barquin Arozamena, who was ranked No. 69 nationally by Golfweek, ended her career as a Cyclone with a fourth-straight NCAA Regional appearance and earned All-Big 12 Team honors for the third time - the second player in Iowa State's history to do so.

She is ISU's career leader in stroke average (73.44).

"Celia was a handsome person who was loved by all her team-mates and friends".

She was originally from Puente San Miguel in Spain but made a name for herself in the United States where she was the 2018 Big 12 champion and Iowa State Female Athlete of the Year.

He continued by insisting that the officials kept him in the dark throughout the contest , adding: "I was upset with a handball".
