Chas from Chas & Dave dies of organ failure

Chas Hodges of legendary music duo Chas and Dave has passed away, it was announced in an official tweet today.

The singer died in his sleep in the early hours of Saturday morning from organ failure.

Chas had had successful treatment for his illness, and it is not been confirmed whether the cancer was connected to the organ failure which occurred.

Hodges was diagnosed with oesophageal cancer in February, but was determined to return to the stage and had started performing again.

A message on the group's website added: "We would like to thank our fans for their fantastic support and goodwill at this hard time".

The Cargill plant had a smaller recall of Excel brand ground beef in August , but at that time no illnesses had been reported. Vigorous rehydration and other supportive care is the usual treatment; antibiotic treatment is generally not recommended.

He went on to team up with Dave Peacock in the 1970s.

Chas & Dave formed in 1975, and enjoyed a run of hits in the late seventies and early eighties with songs like Gertcha, The Sideboard Song, Rabbit, Ain't No Pleasin' You and Snooker Loopy.

Mr Hodges had suffered number of health issues and his recent cancer treatment was addressed in song Sling Your Hook.

As a member of Cliff Bennett And The Rebel Rousers, he also appeared as a special guest alongside The Beatles on their final British tour in 1966.
