COOPER: 600 roads remain closed, 5000 rescued because of Florence

Cooper warned that flooding from Hurricane Florence will continue into next week and will continue to put lives at risk.

The animals killed by Florence will be buried, composted or "rendered" for usable parts, state officials said.

Florence County emergency management officials issued the order Friday morning for about 500 people along 58 roads and streets in the area.

The Cape Fear River was expected to crest at 61.5 feet (19 meters), quadrupling its normal height, on Wednesday in Fayetteville, a city of 200,000 in the southern part of the state near the Fort Bragg army base, according to the National Weather Service.

So far, 31 people in the state have been killed by Florence. An 81-year-old man who was found dead inside a auto in Dillon County after it was swept away by water, was among the victims in SC, the department tweeted on Thursday.

McMaster said Friday he had "contacted or attempted to speak personally with the families of everyone who we lost during this crisis, this tragedy", including the families of Newton and Green.

That figure is less than 2,000 in SC.

More water vapor means more rain, especially when the storm is a crawler like Florence, which slowed to about 2 miles per hour (1.6 km per hour) after slamming into the North Carolina coast.

The flood has been giving so much warning to Horry County, South Carolina, that officials published a detailed map of places that flooded in 2016 and warned those same places were going underwater again.

Numerous state's 2,100 hog farms "are returning to normal", according to the North Carolina Pork Council. They were met by silty mud on walls and floors, blown out windows and bad odors.

South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster estimated damage from the flood in his state at $1.2 billion in a letter that says the flooding will be the worst disaster in the state's modern history. He asked Congress for help.
