Todd Phillips, the director of the upcoming "Joker" origin movie, took to Instagram on Friday to share new footage of Joaquin Phoenix as the film's title character.

The clip, set to Laughing by The Guess Who, shows an unassuming Flack standing around while images of the Joker flash across him. I'm surprised that we received this look so early on during production, but leaks were likely imminent as filming is well underway. The film's tentative release date is October 4, 2019.

It is also worth mentioning that Phoenix isn't the only one in the scene with clown hair or makeup, as numerous other characters in the scene are wearing similar, albeit less elaborate outfits.

Phillips had previously shared a portrait of Phoenix in character, but crucially, without the Joker makeup.

Additionally, many skins will have their dark variants, and players will enter a non-combat area after getting into the portal. Clubs and corresponding club prizes are also new to competitive Fortnite , but we'll explain all that later.

What can we learn from this brief camera test? A few days later the film's director, Todd Phillips, revealed this official photo of Phoenix as the drab and depressed-looking Arthur Fleck, a man cast off by society who will become the Clown Prince of Crime. This could just be coincidence, but if not, and with a separate Joker standalone movie planned with Jared Leto, could this be an origin story focused around the Joker we see in The Dark Knight trilogy?

It's not until the end of the video that the 43-year-old actor goes full Joker by sporting white face paint, a blue teardrop and a terrifying drawn-on red smile.

Joker will star Phoenix, Zazie Beetz, Bill Camp, Frances Conroy, Brett Cullen, Glenn Fleshler, Douglas Hodge, Marc Maron, Josh Pais, and Shea Whigham.
