Oliver Fisher moved into a three-way tie for the lead after making European Tour history during the second round of the Portugal Masters.

I got a great round going on that Sunday, and it was a matter of keeping things going on that day.

The Offaly golfer is now at 73rd on the Race to Dubai and he needs to make the Top 60 if he is to make it into the European Tour's season finale.

"After that it was about hitting a couple of good drives on 17 and 18 which I did, and I just tried to enjoy it really".

Fisher started with three birdies and then eagled the par-five fifth before adding further gains on the sixth and eighth to turn in 28.

The 30-year-old got up and down from the side of the driveable par-four 15th for another birdie but needed to hole a 20-footer to save par at the par-three next after leaving his tee shot a long way from the hole.

Overnight leader Lucas Herbert and Eddie Pepperell also got to 12 under after rounds of 67 and 66 respectively, with in-form Matt Wallace a shot off the pace in fourth spot. "It [shooting 59] was in the back of my mind all day".

Fisher missed that but completed his par to write his name in the European Tour record books.

"It was important to keep reminding myself that I was out there to have some fun, enjoy it, and not get too tentative". Every week you can find extended tournament highlights and individual player highlights from the likes of Rory McIlroy, Justin Rose and Tommy Fleetwood in events on the Race to Dubai. The pair were in the same Nick Faldo elite squad.

"I'm lucky, really lucky that my fiancee is here and there's so many friends around", he told Sky Sports.

The Man from Essex, England is still friends with McIlroy but now has bragging rights over the former world number one: McIlroy's lowest European Tour score is 63.
