Snap users will be able to search for products by taking a picture of either an item or a barcode, which will generate a link that, if clicked, would bring users to the Amazon app.

Snap Inc (SNAP.N) said on Monday it is testing a new way to search for products on Amazon.com (AMZN.O) through its Snapchat app's camera, allowing users to shop directly using the messaging app.

"We'll be rolling it out slowly, but we wanted to announce it to everyone at the same time", it added.

"Simply point your Snapchat camera at a physical product or barcode, and press and hold on the camera screen to get started", writes Snapchat on its news blog.

It was unclear if the tool was something Snap built in-house or has borrowed from Amazon, but the potential revenue-gain will be important for the company as its user base shrinks and cash losses grow.

Despite the convenience for Amazon shoppers, Snap may be the biggest victor from the partnership announced Monday. Disappointing service growth and increased competition have certainly affected the profitability and the popularity of the photo application.
