Tiger Woods wins Tour Championship, first Tour win in 5 year

"Certainly, this is going to be up there as one of my better accomplishments I've had [if I win]", Woods told NBC Sports before the tournament was over. I've gotten very lucky.

Rory McIlroy compared the scenes which greeted Tiger Woods' first victory in five years to those which saw Jack Nicklaus end a similarly lengthy winless streak almost 40 years ago.

Meanwhile, Rose was able to claim the FedEx crown, but just barely. He was T-40 at The Northern Trust, T-24 at the Dell Technologies Championship at TPC Boston in Norton, and was T-6 at the BMW Championship. Justin Johnson was third with 7 under par.

But he steadied the ship with a par on the 17th and then closed out the win with a par on 18.

". I didn't think I'd ever play again", recalled Woods, while lamenting the recent difficulties of just getting through a day, without any injury setbacks. "If I could somehow piece together a golf swing this year, I felt I could do it".

He built a five-shot lead at the turn and despite bogeys at the 15th and 16th holes, he held on ahead of fast-finishing Billy Horschel, who carded 66 for second place on nine-under.

'Sons of Anarchy' actor Paul John Vasquez found dead at age 48
He is the second actor from the long-running drama series to die in recent months, after Alan O'Neill died in June age 47. His passion was to help expose underprivileged children to the arts and encourage them to pursue their desires.

"It was really special to see them there", Woods said. Not that you'd know. "It was an interesting scenario".

"But somehow I've been able to do that, and here we are". Just four months after reporting he couldn't hit the ball more than 60 yards, Woods rejoined the PGA Tour and made the cut in his first event at Torrey Pines. They wanted to see their man obviously pick this up, as well. I've got a bunch of guys behind me who are playing well. And the fans at East Lake on Sunday did witness somewhat of a miracle. He won even if he did not quite win the FedEx Cup, the four-tournament aggregate event that went to Rose. Justin Rose, who entered the day three shots behind Woods, made a key birdie on 18 to win the FedEx Cup title - a four-tournament playoff with a $10 million prize to the victor.

Woods is 12-under for the tournament.

For a little more perspective I present the graphic below that shows where Woods was ranked in the official world rankings in November of 2017.

The victory erased any last lingering doubts about Woods' ability to compete at the highest level, something he had served notice of with top 10 finishes at the British Open and US PGA Championships. In September 2018 he revealed that his back problems surfaced during the 2012 Ryder Cup and forced him to miss a session for the first time.
