The Google Pixel 3 doesn't go on sale until November 1 - but pre-order plans are already popping up on Australia's telco sites. In real time, the Pixel will transcribe the caller's response for you to see and choose what to do.

Google's homegrown smartphone hardly challenges the status quo all-screen, jumbo-sized designs from Apple and Samsung. The one flourish: a brightly painted power button.

Regardless of which of the myriad options you opt for, the Pixel Slate is consistently priced higher than the Surface Pro 6, not a wise decision when you're the new entrant into a market that is dominated by a giant like Microsoft. Increasingly, it seems likely that whatever company gets an initial foothold in your home, that will drive future purchasing decisions. Photo Booth will take photos when you smile or make faces. It turns the phone, when docked, into bedside experience with Google Assistant ready to assist, and clever things like the colour tone changing wake-up routine. Can customers trust even more of their lives in the hands of the data giant? Aside from turning on Google Assistant's always-listening function when docked, you'll also enable smart device integration, and even a gentle wake up function which uses light on the screen to mimic a sunrise and gradually wake you up.

Rival Apple has played up its privacy-first practices, and how it collects as little information about its customers as possible. "Anyone who claims you don't need data to offer a valuable service isn't telling the full picture".

The Pixel 3 features a new Group Selfie Cam, which the company said captures "184 percent more of the scene than iPhone XS" and also has a portrait mode. That's significantly short of the capacity we're seeing in other flagship smartphones, and the fact it now supports wireless charging is no compensation.

The company "did not put in a camera, so it's comfortable to use in private spaces of your home like the bedroom", said Google's Diya Jolly, vice president of product management.

It's true that you can buy the Pixel 3 or Pixel 3 XL unlocked, but most in the us still don't buy their phones that way.

The fronts of the phones now have two separate cameras: an 8MP 28mm f/1.8 (35mm equiv.) standard one and an 8MP 19mm f/2.2 (35mm equiv.) wide-angle one. During a call, the stationary camera will track you, slowly panning and zooming to keep you in frame as you walk around your living room or kitchen, chopping vegetables or digging in the sofa for the lost remote. It comes in three colors-Chalk, Charcoal, Aqua, and Sand.
