Meanwhile, Health Secretary Matt Hancock is hosting the first ever Global Ministerial Mental Health Summit in London, attended by ministers and representatives from over 50 countries as well as the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

The royal couple met artist Dairo Vargas who created a painting especially for the Summit entitled Someone To Turn To and he gave the Duke and Duchess the opportunity to add to it. It marks the first time the couple has made a joint official visit since the birth of their third child, Prince Louis, in April.

After the artist pointed to one of the figure's shoulders, the Duchess added a small stroke and asked: "Fine?"

"That's pretty much ruined the picture", William joked, via E! "This is how you properly ruin a picture", the prince quipped, brush in hand.

She said: "I understand how tragic, devastating and long-lasting the effect of suicide can be on families and communities. It's great to have some creative reason in which the same [mental health] conversations are going on".

Dairo said that he hoped that the royals would contribute to his work but he didn't know until the day if they would.

Calling for more funding and resources for mental health support services, they continued: 'We can no longer afford to be silenced by stigma or stymied by misguided ideas that portray these conditions as a matter of weakness or moral failing.

'I openly admit to having battled depression and anxiety and I think a lot of people do. The goal of the two-day summit taking place in central London is to achieve improved mental health for everyone.

William asked one attendee: "Have you noticed a shift in attitude in the last few years and months? Similarly, lack of mental health centre for children is another challenge", said Dr Kunwar.

And his wife asked another: "What's the best was to access [help]?"

They also reveal connections between mental health and a robust economy, making special mention of the sliver of global aid ― less than 1 percent ― that is directed to various services, while also noting that "domestic financing on prevention, promotion and treatment is similarly low".

William and Catherine then got the giggles as they posed for photographers on a friendship bench.
