Monaco have sacked manager Leonardo Jardim following their disappointing start to the Ligue 1 campaign.

The Ligue 1 side announced Jardim's departure from the club on Thursday after dropping to 18th on the log, having won only one league game so far this season.

The 44-year-old Portuguese had been in charge for just over four seasons during which the team had performed consistently well with the high point in 2016-17 when they won Ligue 1 and reached the Champions League semi-finals.

On Wednesday, Sportsmail reported Henry had turned down the opportunity to manage Aston Villa after being approached by Monaco over an emotional return to the club. "The entire club wish Leonardo and his coaching staff all the best for the next stage of their careers".

Jardim's dismissal could now give the green light for Belgium assistant boss Thierry Henry to take the reins at the club. "I have always given my best and worked with passion".
