New mental health campaign launched across the Midlands

In a new op-ed for the Guardian published on Tuesday, Gaga, along with World Health Organization director general Tedros Adhanom, urged readers to confront the shame and stigma that keeps people from speaking out about mental health. The root cause? Lack of access due to cost, limited resources, funding, social stigma and distance/ability to secure an appointment.

The PM will place particular focus on the mental health of young people.

According to the findings, there were 118,851 youth who visited an emergency department with a mental health concern during the five-year study period (2010-2014).Of these, 1.8 percent (2,194) were refugees and 5.6 percent (6,680) were non-refugee immigrants.

'Our young people today face constant stressors and challenges - happening in their own lives and in the world around them.

However, in some cases, if not recognised and managed, these feelings can lead to mental illness.

Penned by the Lancet Commission on Mental Health, the report highlighted that people living with mental illnesses still routinely suffer "gross human rights violations" including "torture".

"For over a decade, we have had doctors who are consultants in sport and exercise medicine looking after our elite athletes", he added. "And we can give the mental wellbeing of our children the priority it so profoundly deserves". "And we can all be a part of a new movement", they write.
