Shortly after news of Gunn's hiring surfaced, Bautista took to Twitter to offer a ringing endorsement, writing, "Where do I sign up!".

Upon news of his firing, fans immediately called on Warner Bros. and DC to recruit the director, and now that it's happened, most seem pleased with his first project. It's not like they're standing around waiting for his approval.

The Marvel to DC move comes after Gunn was sacked by Disney - just months before filming started on his Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 - after controversial tweets he made between 2009 and 2012 were found and shared by conservative provocateurs in an effort to discredit Gunn. But when Gunn was sacked by Disney for offensive tweets that resurfaced, Bautista became a very vocal supporter of Gunn.

According toThe Hollywood Reporter, the 52-year-old director has struck a deal with Warner Bros to write Suicide Squad sequel and will possibly direct as well. Gunn's Suicide Squad could conceivably differ from Ayer's in terms of story alone, thereby employing numerous first film's same cast members and characters.

The new Suicide Squad movie is going to be produced by Peter Safran who is famously known for producing films from the highly-successful Conjuringfilm franchise, including the 2018 film The Nun.

Of course, while he isn't directing Suicide Squad 2, David Ayer also hasn't left the DCEU.

That being said, Ayer is excited at the hiring, writing, "I think it's an incredibly fearless and smart move by the studio".

"As I have discussed publicly many times, as I've developed as a person, so has my work and my humour". As the name implies, the Suicide Squad has a high turnover rate (i.e., fatality rate), which conveniently explains why many faces from the first installment would no longer be around. Hopefully there will be no further spillover from Gunn's past that may impact on his reputation further so that we can get to see this project through to completion.
