Airbus says the A350-900ULR offers the longest range of any commercial airliner in service today. The world's longest flight is taking travelers from Singapore to NY. That's right: Flight SQ22 isn't a new route but an exhumed old one, which the carrier launched in 2004 only to axe it in 2013 when it its fleet of Airbus A340-500s were retired.

The flight was a total of 17 hours and 22 minutes from Singapore to Newark and covered 9,537 miles.

The longest nonstop flight in the world landed at Newark Liberty International Airport this morning. This New York flight is expected to take around 19 hours, on average, which is the whole of the Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit trilogies, assuming they are showing them.

Singapore Airlines is also expanding its existing flight operations in the country by upgrading the Delhi-Singapore route to a Boeing 787-10 and and increasing the Ahmedabad-Singapore flights to five times a week.

Singapore Airlines has re-launched the world's longest non-stop flight from Singapore to NY five years after it withdrew the service owing to high fuel prices.

According to Airbus, the twin-engine A350-900ULR burns 25 per cent less fuel compared to other aircraft of a similar size.

"We are optimistic about the demand for non-stop services to the U.S.", the spokesman said.
